Antipoaching Flight
If you are looking to help fund some of our conservation teams here locally, one of the best ways to do this is by sponsoring an anti-poaching flight. We have partnered with Big Game Heli company, and the fantastic bush pilot Gerry McDonald, to offer flights over our private game reserves, giving the local antipoaching units a better eye in the sky and better sense of what is happening on the ground.
Many of the antipoaching units work solely on the ground, either from a vehicle or on foot, when it comes to looking for illegal human activity and poaching incidents. It is a slow-going process and one that limits how much area they can cover at any one time. By being in the air inside the helicopter, the antipoaching unit leaders can check areas of their reserve they cannot easily access on the ground, and they can cover their entire reserve in a single flight.
When in the air Gerry and the Antipoaching unit leader are looking for any evidence of human excursions, snare lines that have been set, evidence of poaching camps and recently poached animals.
By joining the flight, not only are you sponsoring this extremely helpful event, but you also get a front row seat to a day in the life of a South African conservationist. You will also see many animals from the air during your flight. So far elephant, rhino, hippo, lions, leopard, wild dog, hyena, cheetah, black and white rhino have all been seen on previous flights.
